Res Publica Romana is a game concentrating 250 years of political history during the Republic of Rome, from the 1st Punic War (264 BC) to the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC Players control factions made up of families Senate, and compete for positions, military commands, economic concessions and new supporters.
Each player tries to become the dominant political force of Rome. But the Senate must also deal with the affairs of the state in a hostile world, which requires some cooperation in the conduct of wars and in maintaining the satisfaction of the people. Failure in this task, especially at a time when Rome is vulnerable, can cause the fall of the Republic. Therefore, the players will have to fight against each other, but also against the game itself, which is an omnipresent opponent seeking to divide and beat them.
Players must not forget the threat of the fall of the Republic and be ready to cooperate for the good of the state. Otherwise, the most likely winner will be the game, and all players will have gone through the wire of the sword!
