Welcome young squires to Medieval Academy, the training academy for knighthood. During your six months of apprenticeship, you will cultivate the qualities that will make you glorious Knights in the service of our good King Arthur the 42nd! You will have to excel in jousting and tournaments, accomplish perilous quests, perfect your studies in the codices of our library; you will also be introduced to the rudiments of the King's service, and you will have to perfect your sense of gallantry and charity. In each of these courses you will gain or lose points for Knighthood. Thus, at the end of the semester, it is among you the squire who will have obtained the most points of Knighthood who will be knighted by King Arthur the 42nd! In the Medieval Academy game, you play as a squire who would like to become a knight. To do so, you'll have to show your worth in battle, complete quests and serve your king. Eventually you will try to cheat a little bit by getting the Princess to favor you. But most importantly, you'll have to avoid looking like a fool or a cheapskate.
Medieval Academy is a fairly simple card game with intuitive rules: when you play a red card worth 3 ... you move three squares forward on the red board. Yeah, years of research and development went into making this game! The heart of the game is the exchange of cards between players, and it's more subtle than it seems at first glance. There are always choices to be made, and choosing is easy, but choosing well is rarely obvious. And like card swapping games in general, it's fluid, because everybody's playing at the same time, and it's very interactive.
The richness of the game is enhanced by the variants on each back of the boards that can be combined as you wish. It is part of the very official category of "crying" games where it is not uncommon for players to squeal a little against bad luck, their opponents and the universe in general! Intended to be played with family or friends, Medieval Academy is accessible and all types of players will be seduced by the subtlety of its mechanics. Pierô's humorous illustrations contribute to the quality of this first game, both for its author and for the publishing house Blue Cocker.
