The Azathoth expansion is a unique "neutral" expansion. When you awaken Azathoth, or are the first player to summon one of the four types of monsters associated with this faction, you get the Loyalty Card for that unit. This shows the monster's (or Azathoth's) characteristics, gives its special ability (all Azathoth monsters have one), and so on. From then on, only YOU can summon this type of monster. At least, until all monsters of that type have been cleared from the map. For example, if you are the first person to summon an Elder Thing, no one else can do it. You can summon all three available Elder Things, if you wish.
Azathoth is unusual in many ways. When summoned, you choose how much power you want to spend and place a special marker on your power track. This is Azathoth's combat ability - so the more you spend, the deadlier he becomes. Of course, in some games, someone, fearing the misuse of Azathoth, may summon it cheaply and dishonestly just to keep it from falling into another player's hands. This is all part of the fun.
