The Dreamland extension contains two separate maps (smaller than 40x20, but larger than half - together the two maps cover more area than a 40x20 map). One map is the surface world, while the other is the underground world. Some areas on the map are portals between the two maps, and when you are on one of these sites you can go back and forth. For example, the Tower of Koth (Underworld) and Sarkomand (Surface) are a related pair.
You might ask yourself: Why would I want to travel? It's simple: Both maps have certain areas that contain what we currently call citadels (for example: Kadath, or the Vault of Zin). If you control all the Citadels on one map, you win immediately! This gives players a whole new way to win the game! You can be far behind on the trail of Fate, but win a victory because of your efficiency in the Land of Dream.
It's not as easy as it sounds either. The game comes with 6 plastic Zoogs and a Bhole. Both species are controlled by the rules of the game - not by the players. Zoogs sneak through the surface world, interfering with your followers and your gates, like an annoying nuisance. The Bhole, on the other hand, is a fearsome predator that periodically emerges from the depths of the underworld and can wipe out entire armies. In both cases, it's harder to achieve a "Citadel Victory", which of course makes the game even better, as some players usually opt for the old-fashioned victory, while others opt for the Citadels and the interaction becomes even more exciting.
