Japan's attack on the American Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor and Japanese domination over the entire Pacific was a real shock to the Western powers. However, the United States destroyed 4 Japanese aircraft carriers following the Battle of Midway, compromising the advantage of the Japanese Empire. To protect itself from American counter-attacks, Japan decided to capture bases in New Guinea and began to build an airfield at Guadalcanal in order to isolate Australia, the last Allied stronghold in the Pacific.
Although little prepared for a ground offensive, the United States managed to capture the Guadalcanal airfield, thanks to the efforts of General Alexander Vandergrift and his first company of Marines. In enemy territory and with low supply reserves, the Marines now had to hold out against Lieutenant General Harukichi Hyakutake at the head of the 17th Japanese Army. Conflict of Heroes: Guadalcanal recreates these clashes by including beautiful jungles and beach plateaus, Marine units, Empire units, and other new things. Guadalcanal uses the same set of rules as the other games in the Conflict of Heroes series and adds new special rules such as American artillery fire, Banzai charges, night combat, and jungle movement.
