At the summer solstice, the Sioux tribes used to send their most promising young wizards to the Great Shaman. With his infinite wisdom, they tried to connect with Waka Tanka, the Great Spirit of all things. After four days and four nights of meditation and dancing, each of the sorcerer's apprentices had to demonstrate their communion with nature by asking Waka Tanka to show one of the totemic animals of his tribe in front of him.
Woe to him whose incantations were in vain: his prestige had been achieved forever. Some did not hesitate to hide their misfortune by using all possible stratagems....
