This extension of The Great War focuses on battles involving the French army. When Germany declared war on Russia on August 1, 1914, France honored its treaty with Russia and mobilized to face an expected German offensive. Germany, as planned, crossed Belgium and the rest is history. Although the French army fought in many battles, the scenarios of this extension focus on their most famous campaign - Verdun. The Battle of Verdun lasted from February to December 1916 and testifies to the strength and tenacity of the French army.
The French Army extension contains 18 scenarios on the Battle of Verdun and the Nivelle offensive in April-May 1917. The box also includes a rule booklet, 125 figurines of French infantry and specialists of the 3 armies, play aids for the field and units, 3 sheets of field tiles and markers. The French soldiers included are 48 infantrymen, 3 grenadier specialists, 3 teams of machine guns (each with 1 machine gun and 4 servants) and 3 teams of mortars (each with 1 mortar and 4 servants).
There are also 14 French specialists, such as military engineers, flame throwers, light machine gunners and observers. These specialists add new rules to the basic game. When a specialist is added to a unit, it allows that unit to modify its normal actions according to the type of specialist you have attached to it.
