July 11, 1899, 10 a.m. The Union Pacific Express had just left Folsom, New Mexico, with 47 passengers on board. A few minutes later, rushing footsteps were heard on the roof, followed by the first shots. Armed bandits ruthlessly robbed the passengers of their belongings. But will they be able to keep their cool and avoid the bullets? Who will succeed in seizing the briefcase containing the Nice Valley Coal Company's payroll, even though it is under the supervision of Marshal Samuel Ford? Only one bandit will achieve his goal: to become the richest outlaw in the gang.

Each player chooses a character, takes the corresponding character card and places it in front of him. He places the 6 Bullet cards of his colour, in ascending order of number of bullets, to the left of his Character card. He shuffles the 10 Action cards of his colour and places them face down to the right of his Character card: this forms his personal draw pile. Each player also takes a $250 purse and places it on his card, keeping its value hidden.

In the centre of the table, form a train with as many Wagons as there are players. Choose or randomly pick the Wagons and place them in any order you like. Then add the Locomotive to one end. Place the number and types of Loot Chits shown on the floor of each Wagon in the Wagon. The Purses are drawn at random and arranged with their value hidden. Place the Marshal Chit and a Pool in the Locomotive. Unused Loot Chits are returned to the box except for the second Pool, which is placed next to the Locomotive. Randomly take 4 cards from the 7 cards corresponding to the number of players (2-4 players or 5-6 players) and shuffle them. Then take one card at random, without revealing it, from the 3 Arrival at Station cards. Form a deck of 5 cards by placing the 4 Hand cards face down on top of the Arrival at Station card. Put all the other Hand cards back in the box. Place the 13 neutral Ball cards next to the Locomotive.

Since its release October 2014, Colt Express has won numerous awards and has been particularly well received by players. Even if the game started a little while ago, you can still have a good time playing it, below the reward obtained by the game : 2015 (As d'Or - Jeu de l'Année).
