The Second World War was probably the largest ideological war ever waged, in addition to being the largest armed conflict in history. This explains the acts of resistance that arose spontaneously in the occupied countries, to the heart of Germany. Poland began in 1939 to gather arms and collect information on the German army. In June 1940, leaflets were issued calling on the French to refuse the armistice. In May 1941, two young Greeks manage to win a swastika flag floating on Athens ...
Gradually, the resistance movements of each nation are structured and gaining power, often trained and equipped by the SOE (Special Operations Executive) set up by the British. Multiple forms of resistance emerge thanks to the courage of women and men who are willing to risk their lives for freedom: illegal newspapers, strikes, intelligence gathering, espionage, escape networks or sabotage. Towards the end of the conflict, nearly 200,000 members of the French Forces of the Interior (FFI) participate in the fighting to free France by harassing German road and rail convoys heading for Normandy.
